Description of key information
Dibutyl peroxydicarbonate is a liquid which can only be marketed together with a phlegmatiser because of the substance's thermal instability. The marketed product has a self accelerated decomposition temperature (SADT) of +5 °C and is classified as an organic peroxide Typ D. However, due to the thermal instability, testing is disregarded for determination of the boiling point, the vapour pressure, the flash point, the water solubility and the auto ignition temperature. Furthermore, testing for oxidizing properties does not need to be performed for organic peroxides. The density of the product placed on the market is 0.88 g/cm³ at 0 °C. The log Pow (= 3.19) of Dibutyl peroxydicarbonate was estimated by QSAR calculation because experimental determination is technically not feasible due to the thermal decomposition of the substance.
