Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Results and discussion

Test results (Oxidising solids)
Key result
Sample tested:
other: 2:1 sample to cellulose ratio
Parameter:
preliminary test
Remarks on result:
other: Burning did not propagate down the sample/cellulose cone. The sample slightly blacked when in contact with the ignition source. No sustained burning observed.
Remarks:
Type of reaction: moderate

Any other information on results incl. tables

Preliminary screening test:

Composition 2:1 ratio  Mass of material (g)  Type of reaction  Burning time (sec)  Comments on burning behaviour
Barium nitrate     vigorous     32     Sample completely finished burning at 48s
Cellulose   2
X300  4     Moderate     N/A     No burning propagation down the cone (blacked when in contact with the ignition source). No sustained burning observed
 Cellulose  2

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
X300 should be classed as "not an oxidising solid"
Executive summary:

The oxidizing properties were determined in accordance with the EU A.12 test guideline and using a butane micro torch as a source of ignition in a preliminary test. In this test, the mixture of test item/cellulose (ratio 2:1) was compared to a reference/cellulose (same ratio) which vigorously reacted in 32s. With the test item/cellulose mixture, burning did not propagate. The substance should be classed as “not on oxidizing solid”.
