Description of key information

The substance is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.

Additional information

There is no available experimental data on the biodegradability of the reaction product of 2,4-Dinitrotoluene and 2,6-Dinitrotoluene and hydrogen, deaminated (MCHAmix, EC 943 -517 -5). Therefore read-across approach was applied to its constituent, 2-Methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003-32-9) and to the similar compound 2,6-Dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1).

In order to assess the biodegradation potential of the test substance, an OECD 301C study was performed with source chemical 2-Methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003-32-9) (BASF AG, 1988). According this study the value of DOC removal was 88% within 24 days. Another study with the cemical 2,6-Dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1) showed the value of DOC removal to be 95% within 28 days. Both substances are readily biodegradable, according OECD criteria.

Based on the data from the read-across approach the target substance MCHAmix is considered to be readily biodegradable.

Experimental data on the biodegradation in water, sediment and soil of the reaction product of MCHAmix (EC943 -517 -5) are not available. Based on the screening tests on biodegradability (5.2.1) it is expected that the MCHAmix is biodegraded through growth linked processes.
