Additional information

With an atmospheric half life of 7.82 days, 3-pentanone is slowly degraded by OH-radicals in the atmosphere. In water, half life strongly depends on OH concentration. At high OH concentrations during summer at the water surface of an mid-european lake, the half life is ca. 40 days whereas half life at average OH concentrations over the whole water column can be assumed with ca. 3301 days. Therefore degradation in surface water is not expected to be an important fate path in the environment as well as hydrolysis because the molecule lacks hydrolysable functional groups.
