Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Data is not available to demonstrate that this substance is readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Turner and Watkinson (1985) found that Alkenes C10/11/12/13 were readily biodegradable, Battersby (1995) reports that C14 -16 alpha olefins are readily biodegradable and Mead (1998) found alkenes C20 -24 to be readily biodegradable. Based on read across from these three studies we can conclude that alkenes with a carbon number range of C10 -24 are readily biodegradable. Data is not available to demonstrate that alkenes with carbon numbers above C24 are readily biodegradable. Therefore, hydrocarbons C14 -30 are not considered readily biodegradable.
