- The ignition broke during 4 of the 5 tests. The burning time for test 3 (where wire did not break) is reasonable typical of the burning times for the tests where the wire broke. This showed that the breaking of the wire did not have any significant effect on the burning times. The time for test 5 was not recorded prior to the wire breaking and the burning time was not recorded due to a timing device malfunctioning, however it was concluded that repeating the test was not necessary as it was unlikely to affect the classification.

The test item was ground before use to allow for a reduction in particle size during handling and transport.
Authors state that the burning time for test 1 for the 1:1 test item: cellulose mixture was not recorded because the extinguishing of the flame was thought to be the end of the reaction, timing device stopped at this point.
The ignition wire broke during 4 of the 5 tests for the 4:1 test item: cellulose mixture. the burning time for test 3 (where the wire did not break) is reasonably typical of the burning times for the test where the wire broke. This shows that the breaking of the wire did not have any significant effect on the burning times.
The values of the current and voltage recorded for test 1 and 2 (4:1 test item: cellulose mixture) indicated a power dissipation of 158 and 199 watts respectively which is outside the method specification. However the author states this did not have a significant effect on burning times.
The current for test 5 (4:1 test item: cellulose mixture) was not recorded prior to the wire breaking and the burning time was not recorded because of a timing device malfunction. The mode of burning for test 5 was typical of the other 4 tests and as the mean burning time of the other 4 test was approximately in the middle of the mean burning times of the two reference mixtures, it was concluded that repeating test 5 was unlikely to affect the classification of the test item with regard to oxidising properties.
