Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
storage stability and reactivity towards container material
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2015
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN-MTC section 37.4 "Test methods for corrosion to metals" Test C.1
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Other quality assurance:
ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories)
Type of method:
testing for reactivity towards container material
Remarks:
Sheets were exposed to the chemicals for one week; the mass loss of the metal plates was determined by weighing
Specific details on test material used for the study:
METHOD:
- Metals: sheets of aluminium (material number 3.4365) and steel (material number 1.0037)
- Metal plates: 50 mm length, 20 mm width and 2 mm thickness, polished with grinding paper of 120 grits and degreased
- Test design: 3 plates (one submerged into the solution, one only half way and a third one hung in the gas phase)
- Apparatus: Glass-flat-flange-container
- Temperature: 55 °C
- Loading Time: 7 days
- Gas Phase: Static air
- Mass loss: determination by weighing

Results:
The corrosion rate of the substance with steeel or aluminium is lower than 6.25 mm/year.
Transformation products:
not measured
Storage stability / reactivity towards container material:
other: Not corrosive to steel and not corrosive to aluminium
Conclusions:
The corrosion rate with steel or with aluminium was < 6.25 mm/year. No localised corrosion was observed by visual inspection.
Executive summary:

According to UN 37.4 (C.1 Test), the corrosion rate with steel or with aluminium was < 6.25 mm/year. No localised corrosion was observed by visual inspection. The substance is in the sense of UN 37.4 (C.1 Test) not corrosive to steel and not corrosive to aluminium.

Description of key information

The corrosion rate with steel or with aluminium was < 6.25 mm/year. No localised corrosion was observed by visual inspection.

Additional information

The substance is in the sense of UN 37.4 (C.1 Test) not corrosive to steel and not corrosive to aluminium.
