Test material

Constituent 1
Chemical structure
Reference substance name:
Reaction mass of 2-[7-isopropyl-5-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl]-1,3-dioxolane and 2-[8-isopropyl-6-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl]-1,3-dioxolane
EC Number:
916-737-4
Molecular formula:
Reaction mass of 2-[7-isopropyl-5-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl]-1,3-dioxolane and 2-[8-isopropyl-6-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl]-1,3-dioxolane
IUPAC Name:
Reaction mass of 2-[7-isopropyl-5-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl]-1,3-dioxolane and 2-[8-isopropyl-6-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl]-1,3-dioxolane
Test material form:
other: Liquid
Details on test material:
Please note that although the substance is stated as the mono-constituent substance 2-(6-methyl-8-(-1-methylethyl)bicyclo(2.2.2)oct-5-en-2(3)-yl-1,3-dioxolane in the report, analytical data on the same batch shows that the test substance is in fact the multi-constituent substance Reaction mass of 2-(7-isopropyl-5(6)-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl)-1,3-dioxolane and 2-(8-isopropyl-5(6)-methylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-yl)-1,3-dioxolane.

Results and discussion

Flash point
Flash point:
118 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Test 2: 118°C/Test 3: 120°C. The difference between the results was ≤ 6°C; the reported flash point is the lowest flash point value obtained.

Any other information on results incl. tables

The value obtained in Test 1 deviated > 28°C from the starting temperature of the ignition source and was therefore not taken into account.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
In a GLP-compliant study in accordance with UN-MTC Section 32.4, EC A.9, ISO 3679, ASTM D7094 and ASTM D93 using the Pensky-Martens closed-cup method, the flash point of the substance has been determind as 118°C. Because the flash point is > 60°C, the test substance is not a flammable liquid according to the CLP Regulation.
