- Executive summary:
The eye irritation potential of FAT 46014/E was evaluated in a study conducted according to the procedure described in the Proposed Guidelines of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) § 163.81-4 "Primary eye irritation study", Federal Register, Vol. 43, No. 163, August 22, 1978. 0.1 g of FAT 46014/E was placed into the conjunctival sac of the left eye of each of 3 male and 3 female rabbits, after gently pulling away the lower lid from the eyeball. The lids were then held together for few seconds in order to prevent loss of the test material. The right eye remained untreated and served as a control. The ocular reactions were evaluated 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 days after the instillation of FAT 46014/E. The irritation index in this experiment was established to be 0 for the cornea, 0 for the iris and 0 for the conjunctiva, as no irritation was observed at any of the observations. Hence, FAT 46014/E was found to cause no irritation when applied to the rabbit eye mucosa.
