Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The estimated 14 day LC50 for earthworms is 103.1 mg/kg soil dw. TLM QSAR modelling was used to calculated LL50 and NOELR of isoprene towards E. fetida. The calculated LL50 values is 57.465 mg/kg soil dw and NOELR is 11.009 mg/kg soil dw.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for soil macroorganisms:
57.465 mg/kg soil dw
Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for soil macroorganisms:
11.009 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

Measured chronic data are not available for this endpoint. In the absence of measured data the ECOWIN v1 ECOSAR programme (Nabholz and Mayo-Bean 2009) is used to estimate a LC50 of 103.1 mg/kg dw soil for earthworms.

The ECOSAR model is a reliable and appropriate QSAR model to apply to isoprene as it is based on a related chemical dataset that calculates the toxicity of neutral organic hydrocarbons whose mode of action is non-polar narcosis. The endpoint calculated here is therefore a reasonable estimate of its baseline toxicity. A QSAR prediction was used as the key endpoint in the OECD SIDS for isoprene (2005).
