Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Eucalyptus oil is considered as a readily biodegradable mixture, with a log octanol-water partition coefficient comprised between 2.84 and 4.42 and a worst case BCF value at 852.9 L/kg wet-wt, which is a conservative BCF value for the mixture. Therefore, Eucalyptus oil does not meet the criterion for persistence (P) and bioaccumulation (B). For the T criterion, based on individual acute toxicities of the major constituents, the L(E) C50 values for Eucalyptus oil were estimated to be 0.90 mg/L for fish, 1.02 mg/L for aquatic invertebrates and 1.64 mg/L for algae, and the NOEC value for Eucalyptus oil was estimated to be 0.88 mg/L for algae (based on growth rate). However, to prove that this constituent approach was considered as a worst case and finally not realistic, two experimental acute fish studies were performed for two worst case typical mixtures of Eucalyptus oil, showing 96h-LL50 of 18mg/L and 42 mg/L for both Eucalyptus crude oil and Eucalyptus oil globulus respectively. Therefore, the key EC50 value used to derive PNEC is 1.02 mg/L for aquatic invertebrates. As this value is greater than 0.1 mg/L, Eucalyptus oil is presumably not T.

In conclusion, Eucalyptus oil could not be considered as a PBT or vPvB substance.
