Stability:

Ethers and amines are generally known to be resistant to hydrolysis. On the basis of the presence of an ether and two amine groups in the molecule, it is expected to be resistant to hydrolysis. Thus, the test substance is expected to be hydrolytically stable in the natural environment since it doesn’t contain any functional group susceptible to hydrolysis. In addition, the high water solubility (106 mg/L) and low fugacity (vapour pressure = 0.49 hPa @ 20°C) of the test substance indicate that releases to air are likely to be low and in the atmosphere, indirect photooxidation by reaction with hydroxyl radicals is predicted to occur with a short half-life of 0.61 hours. There is no indication that the test substance would have abiotic effects on the atmosphere. Therefore, further consideration of the effect of this substance on the atmosphere is not necessary.  

Biodegradation:

Available inherent and ready biodegradation studies on the test substance indicate that the test substance is not inherently biodegradable (<10% in 28d, initial test substance concentration of 400 mg/L) and not readily biodegradable (2% in 28d, initial test substance concentration of 100 mg/L). Further testing for biodegradation in water and sediment (simulation tests) and for biodegradation in soil is waived on the basis that the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates that it is not necessary.  

Bioaccumulation:

The test substance has a low log Kow value [-0.34 (measured)] and an estimated BCF value of 3.16 L/kg wet-wt and thus has low potential for bioaccumulation. Therefore, in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the bioaccumulation in aquatic species study (required in Section 9.3.2) does not need to be conducted.  

Transport and distribution:

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the adsorption/desorption screening test (required in Section 9.3.1) does not need to be conducted as the substance has a low log Kow value (log Kow < 3, at 25 deg C), and thus has a low potential for adsorption. Further, a level III fugacity model calculation with equal and continuous distributions to air, water and soil compartments suggests that the test substance will distribute mainly to the soil (67.1%) and water (32.8%) compartments with minor distribution to the air and sediment compartments (<0.1%).  A Henry’s law constant of 3.79 x 10E-10Pa-m3/mol (Bond Estimate) and 1.21 x 10E-5Pa-m3/mol (Group Estimate) at 25°C suggests that volatilization of the test substance from the water phase is not expected to be high.
