In a bacterial reverse gene mutation assay according to Ames using four S. typhimurium tester strains (TA 98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537) but only one test concentration (258 µg/plate), 3-methylbutanal (isovaleraldehyde) did not induce a mutagenic response either with or without metabolic activation.
