Description of key information

Flash point > 100 °C at 102.3 kPa (75 % aqueous solution of Choline bicarbonate, ASTM D93-10 – Procedure A -Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The study was performed in a well-documented study according the relevant standard method ASTM D93-10 – Procedure A -Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester. The flash point of a 75 % aqueous solution of Choline bicarbonate was determined to be > 100 °C. The determination of the flash point of a 75 % solution is reasonable because this is the marketed form, the substance is not isolated and is additionally hygroscopic. The flash point determination had to be stopped at 100 °C because the test item is an aqueous solution; the water started to boil and made any further determinations impossible. Since the flash point of the test item was > 100 °C, determined in two trials revealing consistent results, and is hence in the expected range, and the calibration with n-tetradecane showed that the testing laboratory established a valid method, this value is considered as reliable and can be used for further risk assessment.

The outcome of the study is reliable without restrictions, consistent within the expected range and determined by a valid method. Hence, no datagaps were identified, the study meets fully the tonnage-driven data requirements under REACH and not further testing needs to be performed.
