Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

100 mg/L

Additional information

For the substance ENB, in a well-conducted approved method selected to control test substance loss by volatilization during aeration, the effect of test substance on the nitrifying activity of activated sewage sludge gave a 5-min EC50 of 150 mg/l. The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) after 5-minutes exposure was 100 mg/l.

The read across justification document attached in chapter 13 shows the very similar structure and physicochemical properties of the source (read across) substance ENB and the target substance VNB. In addition, the available QSAR data from the other ecotoxicological end points shows the almost identical toxicity of these two compounds, with, if anything, a marginally higher toxicity of ENB compared to VNB. The very similar toxicity to species across the trophic levels suggests that the toxic mode of action is non-polar narcosis. The available evidence suggests that reading across from ENB to VNB seems justified and reasonably cautious.
