Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Give artificial respiration, if

indicated. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately flush with plenty of water and continue at least

15 minutes. Seek the advice of a physician, preferable an

ophthalmologist, urgently.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and flush skin thoroughly with

water.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: If patient is conscious and has a gag reflex, give two

glasses of water.

Obtain medical attention without delay . Administer ethanol

(whiskey, brandy etc) 30 ml every 3 hours, until medical

assistance is obtained.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Alcohol-type or universal-type foam for large fires.

Carbon dioxide or dry chemical for small fires.

Product arising from burning: Combustion products may contain carbon and nitrogen oxides

together with some silica smoke.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Use a self-contained breathing apparatus when fighting fire

in an enclosed area.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Contain the spillage.

Absorb with inert material and send it for disposal by

incineration.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid contact with eyes and skin by using appropriate

protective clothing, including safety glasses, handgloves

and apron. Use a self-contained breathing apparatus for high

vapour concentrations. Avoid breathing vapour.

Use with adequate ventilation.

Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with skin and clothing.

Do not swallow (harmful or fatal if swallowed).

Do not get in eyes.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse is not feasible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Add water to form polymeric material and methanol. (A633)

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method, use an approved facility equipped with

waste gas treatment to remove nitrogen oxides and silica

smoke.(A661)

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will only enter the public domain as part of

an article.
