First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air.  Seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothes and launder before using again.

Rinse area thoroughly with plenty of water.  Symptomatic

treatment.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Drink copious amounts of water.  Seek medical advice.  Show

label where possible.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Suitable extinguishing media: foam, carbon dioxide, dry

agent and water

Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a

fire, evolving noxious fumes (eg. carbon and nitrogen

oxides). However, there is no experimental evidence to

support the anticipated combustion products.

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing

apparatus must be worn.

Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from the immediate vincinity.

Wear eye protection, impervious gloves, protective clothing

and footwear and a dust mask conforming to EN 149 FFP1.

Avoid dust formation by damping down with water.  Absorb

spillages of solutions with a suitable inert material (eg.

sand or soil).  Carefully transfer the spillage to waste

containers, or use an approved sealed industrial vacuum

machine.  Containers filled with waste material must be

labelled in the same way as the original 2 NPP containers.

Clean the spillage area with water.

Dispose of waste material in accordance with local

regulations by incineration or landfill, as specified in

Section A6.1.3

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used under

conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with

any local regulations in order to avoid exposure by

ingestion, inhalation, skin and particularly eye contact.

Engineering controls are necessary to reduce exposure to the

substance.

When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled

other than by the use of personal protective equipment, eye

protection (eg. goggles), impervious gloves, protective

clothing and footwear should be worn.

Furthermore, when respiratory protective equipment has to be

used, it must be capable of adequately controlling exposure,

and be suitable for the purpose. A dust mask and filter

conforming to EN149 FFP1 is recommended.

Storage: Store in sealed containers at room temperature.

Keep containers tightly closed when not in use.

Danger other than fire: None known.

Chemical reaction with water: None which is hazardous.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will be used exclusively by industry and

confined to systems that are essentially open and batchwise

industrial operations.  Handling of the substance will be by

trained operators, and it will be kept to a minimum.

Discharge to the environment will be minimal.  Recovery from

minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically

or technically feasible, and such waste material will be

disposed of by incineration or landfill in accordance with

Section A6.1.3.  In principle, it may be possible to recover

larger spillages of uncontaminated material for subsequent

use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The Base Set tests have shown that the substance is toxic by

prolonged exposure, acutely harmful by oral and dermal

exposure, a severe eye irritant and a skin sensitizer.

However, adequate protection will be worn during normal

handling and when dealing with spillages to ensure hazards

are minimised (see section A2.3.1).  No chemical treatment

is practicable to neutralise the health and environmental

hazardous properties.

The dust hazard will be minimised by damping down with

water.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers or spillages of solutions mixed with

inert material (eg. sand or soil) may be disposed of by land

fill at an authorised tip in accordance with local

regulations.(A:650).

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration, by burning

under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment

processor in accordance with local regulations.  Stack gases

should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (eg. carbon and

nitrogen oxides) could be formed.(A:661).

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not normally be discharged to the

sewage system or the aqueous environment.  The substance is

not likely to have adverse effects on sewage treatment

systems following accidental discharge, however, because it

has been shown not to be unduly toxic to sewage

micro-organisms.
