In the preliminary screening test the substance ignited and showed slow combustion propagating along the train. After a distance of about 50 mm in 1 to 2 minutes the flame ceased. Therefore, the combustion was beyond the specified time frame for flammability of 4 minutes for 200 mm. Therefore, the substance is considered to be not flammable and the further testing was not performed.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable

Conclusions:
According to the definition in the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008EEC the test item Aspartic acid, N-(3-carboxy-1-oxo-sulfopropyl)-N-(C16-18 (even numbered), C18 unsaturated alkyl) tetrasodium salts is not considered as flammable.
Executive summary:

In the non-GLP Klimisch 1 study from Bütfering (2012), the flammability of Aspartic acid, N-(3-carboxy-1-oxo-sulfopropyl)-N-(C16-18 (even numbered), C18 unsaturated alkyl) tetrasodium salts was determined according to EU method A.10.. The preliminary screening test the substance ignited and showed slow combustion propagating along the train. After a distance of about 50 mm in 1 to 2 minutes the flame ceased. Therefore, the substance is considered to be not flammable and the further testing was not performed. According to the definition in the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008EEC the test item is not considered as flammable.

This finding is considered reliable for the further risk assessment.
