Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- The pure product as well as in mixture with Kieselguhr (1:1) showed a self-ignition temperature of 170 °C and 180°C, respectively.
- Executive summary:
The self-ignition behavior of the product was determined in the Grewer-oven according to VDI 2263, sheet 1. Therefore, the product was filled in a small wire basket of a volume of 8 cm³ and this wire-basket is placed in the Grewer-oven. In this Grewer-oven, the self-ignition behavior of five samples can be determined at once. An additional basket was filled with a reference substance (Graphite).
The temperature of the oven is increased with a constant heating rate (1.2 K/min) and the temperature of the sample monitored. The self-ignition behavior of the pure product is investigated. Very often, the products melt before a self-ignition can take place. In this case, the sample flows out of the basket and no self-ignition can occur. Thus, the self-ignition behavior of the sample blended with 50 wt.-% Kieselguhr is also investigated. Kieselguhr has a high specific surface area and inhibits that products flow out of the baskets.
