This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:
In a BASF study conducted in 1983 the toxicity of the test substance on Leuciscus idus was determined. The test concentrations were not analytically verified. Undissolved test material was observed in concentration levels 1.5 to 3.2 mg/L throughout the exposure period. The LC50 was >1.5 and < 2.2 mg/L (nominal value, BASF AG 83/228, 1983). This value is supported by the results of a screening test with Danio rerio which resulted in a 96 -h LC50 of < 5 mg/L (BASF SE, 17F0454/11E135, 2012). Therefore, the test substance is considered as acutely toxic to fish.
The reported 48-h EC50 of the test substance on Daphnia magna was 2.2 mg/L (nominal value) in a test using Tween 80 as a solvent. The test concentrations were not analytically verified. The EC50 was determined using non-neutralised samples (BASF AG 1/0500/2/89-0500/89, 1989).Therefore, the test substance is considered as acutely toxic to aquatic invertebrates.
In a long-term study with Daphnia magna according to OECD 211 performed under GLP, the 21 -d NOEC (reproduction, growth) was determined to be 0.069 mg/L (measured, TWA concentration). The study was performed under semi-static conditions with an exchange of the test solutions three times per week. The test concentrations were analytically verified.
In an algal growth inhibition testy conducted in 1990 a 72 -hour ErC50 of 1.55 mg/L and an ErC10 of 0.14 mg/L were determined (BASF AG 2/d500/89, 1990, no solvent was used in this test). The test species was Desmodesmus subspicatus. Test concentrations were not analytically verified. Solvent was not used. The value was recalculated from the fluorometric raw data in 2005 by ECT Oekotoxikologie GmbH in order to calculate the EC values relating to the growth rate, yield and biomass. Therefore, the test substance is considered as acutely toxic to aquatic algae.
In a short-term respiration inhibition test according to OECD using activated sludge from a wwtp treating predominantly domestic sewage, the toxic effect of bis(2 -ethylhexyl)amine was studied. The 3 -h EC10 was determined to be 18 mg/L, while the 3 -h EC50 was 89 mg/L (BASF SE, 2012, report no. 08G0454/11G167).
In a short-term respiration inhibition test using activated sludge from a wwtp treating industrial wastewater, the EC20 was greater than 100 mg/L (BASF AG, 1983).
Additionally, in an oxygen consumption test using Pseudomonas putida (ROBRA test, Tween 80 was used as a solvent) an EC10 of 1300 mg/L was determined (BASF AG, 1989; report no. 10/1890500).
