Additional information

The decision not to derive freshwater and marine PNEC is based on the available acute and chronic toxicity results, which show that di-tert-dodecyl polysulfide is not toxic or harmful at the limit of water solubility.

Polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl has been shown in the OECD 308 study to partition rapidly to the sediment compartment which is confirmed to be the sink of the substance in case of release to waste water. Therefore, further testing has been proposed to investigate toxicity to sediment organisms.

For derivation of freshwater and marine sediment PNECs a study according to OECD TG 218 has been carried out and the results reported in the relevant section. From the NOEC and an AF of 100 the PNEC for freshwater sediments has been calculated (an AF of 1000 has similarly been applied for marine sediment).

PNECsoil has not been derived in liaison with the unlikeliness of soil exposure.

The STP and oral PNECs have been derived on the basis of available data.

A quantitative risk assessment to aquatic compartment is not required for polysulphide, di-tert-dodecyl as the available toxicity data indicate that the substance is not toxic or harmful to the aquatic environment at the limit of water solubility.

Conclusion on classification

A complete acute and chronic aquatic toxicity package is available for characterizing polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl hazard profile. Based on this dataset one can conclude that polysulfides, di-tert-dodecyl is not toxic or harmful up to its water solubility limit and therefore no classification related to its toxicity applies.
