Conclusion on classification

Isononyl benzaote is readily biodegradable and was tested for potential toxicity towards aquatic organisms in fish (acute and chronic toxicity), daphnia (acute and chronic toxicity) and algae (acute/chronic toxicity). The test item is poorly soluble in water and in the acute toxicity studies no adverse effects on the exposed organisms were recorded up to the solubility limit. In the reproduction test with invertebrates (daphnia), no motrality or adverse effects on reproduction rate were observed. The NOEC (21 d) was >= 0.078 mg/L and constitutes the limit of solubility of the test substance under the test coniditions. In the chronic fish toxicity study (Zebra fish early life stage, 28 days post hatch), significant effects at the nominal dosage level 0.25 mg/L were observed and a overall NOEC of of 0.125 mg/L (nominal) and 0.0428 mg/L (mean measured) has been derived. Therefore, the test substance needs to be classified as toxic to aquatic organisms with long lasting effects, category 2 (H411) according to CLP and UN-GHS regulation.
