Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The surface tension measurements were performed with the help of the “pendant drop
method”. In comparison to other methods like the “Wilhelmy Plate method”, the “DuNouy
Ring Method”, the “maximum pull force method”, the “spinning drop method” or the “bubble
pressure method” the pendant drop method can be easily applied to pressure cells and
furthermore small differences in vapour and liquid density do not hinder the measurements.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: pendant drop method
Surface tension:
30.99 mN/m
Temp.:
23.56 °C
Remarks on result:
other: undiluted test item
Conclusions:
- surface tension of (undiluted) substance 2-[[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]methylamino]ethanol: 30.99 mN/m at 23.56 °C;
- the substance is considered to be a surface-active material by definition of EU Method A.5 since the value is less than 60 mN/m.
Executive summary:

The surface tension measurements of the (undiluted) substance 2-[[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]methylamino]ethanol were performed with the help of the pendant drop method (no guideline followed); in comparison to other typical methods, the pendant drop method can be easily applied to pressure cells and furthermore small differences in vapour and liquid density do not hinder the measurements.

The drop shape analysis system used determined for the (undiluted) substance 2-[[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]methylamino]ethanol a surface tension of 30.99 mN/m at 23.56 °C.

The substance is considered to be a surface-active material by definition of EU Method A.5 since the value is less than 60 mN/m.
