Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
26 February 2018 - 27 March 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Appearance/Physical state: White powder
Batch: J1624Z
Purity: 94.9%
Storage conditions: Room temperature in the dark
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
ca. 17.15 min
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The pile blackened, ignited and burnt with a yellow/orange flame which propagated combustion over 200 mm in 17 minutes and 9 seconds.

The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable as it did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes.

Description of key information

The pile blackened, ignited and burnt with a yellow/orange flame which propagated combustion over 200 mm in 17 minutes and 9 seconds.

The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The determination was carried out by measuring the burning rate of test item prepared as a pile of set dimensions, using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method A.10 Flammability (Solids) of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

A mould (250 mm long x 20 mm wide x 10 mm high) was loosely filled with test item (tested as received). A non-combustible, non-porous board was placed onto the mould which was then inverted. The mould was removed and an air-rich Bunsen burner flame applied to one end of the pile until ignition occurred; the time taken to propagate 200 mm was recorded.

The test item is considered highly flammable when in one of the definitive tests carried out according to the outlined test procedure the burning time is less than 45 seconds over a distance of 100 mm.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable as it did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes.
