Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

The acute toxicity of the structural analogue Blue Sema (CAS No 1040873 -93 -5) to Danio rerio was determined in a 96-hour semi-static test according to EU Method C.1 and OECD Guideline 203 using a WAF. No effects occurred up to aquatic saturation. The 96 -h NOEC was determined to be 0.32 mg/L (equivalent to 100 mg/L nominal concentration) and the LOEC > 0.32 mg/L (equivalent to > 100 mg/L nominal concentration).

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

In a Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test according to OECD Guideline 202 with a WAF, the test item Leuco Sulfur Blue 9 had no toxic effect up to aquatic saturation (i.e. limit test concentration); the 48h LOEC is higher than the solubility level of the test item in the test medium, which corresponds to a mean measured concentration of 1.27 mg/L (based on total product). The NOEC value is equal to the mean measured test item concentration of 1.27 mg/L (based on total product).

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The test item is a dye which stains the water and makes the performance of an algae toxicity study technically impossible. Thus, the study does not need to be performed according to REACH Regulation Annex XI, section 2.

Toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae

In a Growth Inhibition Test with Lemna gibba according to OECD Guideline 221 using the WAF method no effects were observed up to the solubility level of the test item in the test medium. The LOEC for growth rate and biomass were determined to be >0.40 mg/L. The 7 -d NOEC of the test both for growth rate and biomass was determined to be 0.4 mg/L (geom.mean measured)

Toxicity to aquatic microorganisms

In a study according to OECD 209 with activated sludge the read across substance (CAS No 1040873 -93 -5) had no influence on the specific respiration rates up to 1000 mg/L. Thus, the EC50 (3h) was determined to be > 1000 mg/L and the NOEC (3h) to be 1000 mg/L.
