In vivo
Results
- Remarks on result:
- other: see "Irritant / corrosive response data"
- Irritant / corrosive response data:
- No signs of irritation were observed until after the fourth application when all animals developed erythema which persisted until after the fifth application. These effects are consistent with those of a slight skin irritant. In addition all animals began to look thin after the fifth application and one was subdued and another adopted a hunched attitude. One animal was found dead on the last day of the test (ie after a total dose of 0.6 g of test substance). The skin and selected major organs taken from all animals for histopathological examination, confirmed slight local irritation. The only systemic changes found were severe involution of the thymus and the spleen, characteristics of stress. There were no other obvious signs of chemical toxicity to account for the ill health of these animals.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- study cannot be used for classification
- Conclusions:
- Slight local irritation was observed.
- Executive summary:
Rats were dermally exposed to the undiluted test substance under occlusive conditions. Five applications gave a total dose of 0.6 g.
Slight local irritation was observed.
