Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
2-Butoxyethyl methacrylate was found to have a flash point of 95 °C. The registered substance does not require classification as a flammable liquid as this value is greater than the threshold criteria of 60 °C (CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008).

Executive summary:

An experiment for flash point of liquids was performed according to ASTM D93 (Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester) for 2-butoxyethyl methacrylate. A recording was made of the temperature at which a flash was first observed following insertion of a test flame into the cup vapour space. This temperature is regarded as the flash point. The test was performed in triplicate. In conclusion, the Pensky-Martens Closed Cup flash point of 2 -butoxyethyl methacrylate was determined to be 95 °C. As this value is in excess of the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 Category 3 criteria for flammable liquids (≥23 °C and ≤60 °C), the registered substance cannot be considered a flammable liquid.

Description of key information

A flash point of 95 °C was found for 2-butoxyethyl methacrylate, confirming that the registered substance is not a flammable liquid under CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
95 °C

Additional information

A Klimisch score of 1 (reliable without restriction) has been assigned to the endpoint conclusion, which was obtained from a key study undertaken according to ASTM D93 (Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester) without deviation. The endpoint can be regarded as a key value that is suitable for regulatory purpose.
