Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment
Administrative data
PBT assessment: overall result
- PBT status:
- the substance is not PBT / vPvB
- Justification:
The PBT assessment of lauryl nonanoate (CAS 17671-26-0) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017).
Persistence
Lauryl nonanoate (CAS 17671-26-0) is readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria (85.5% in 28 d, OECD 301 B). Therefore, it is concluded that the lauryl nonanoate (CAS 17671-26-0) is not P/vP.
Bioaccumulation
The potential for bioaccumulation of lauryl nonanoate (CAS 17671-26-0) is expected to be low. This assumption is based on its low water solubility, ready biodegradability, high adsorption potential, and very high log Kow (> 6) which, taken together, is likely to result in a very low overall bioavailability of the substance. Therefore, the substance is considered not B or vB.
Toxicity
All available short-term and long-term toxicity studies indicated no effects on aquatic organisms up to the limit of water solubility of lauryl nonanoate (CAS 17671-26-0). Moreover, the substance is not classified according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Therefore, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 are not met and the substance does not meet the T criterion.
In conclusionlauryl nonanoate(CAS 17671-26-0) is not PBT/vPvB.
