Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance/physical state/colour
The substance, Basic Red 76, is an odourless organic solid present in the form of dark red powder.
Melting point/freezing point
The melting point of 2-Naphthalenaminium, 7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-N,N,N-trimethyl-, chloride is estimated to be 349.84°C by the Adopted Joback method.
The supporting experimental studies indicate that the substance decomposes without melting.
Boiling point
The boiling point of 2-Naphthalenaminium, 7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-N,N,N-trimethyl-, chloride is estimated to be 641.93°C by the Adapted Stein and Brown Method.
Granulometry
The particle size distribution of test item [7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (CAS No. 68391-30-0) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 10 micron.
Vapour pressure
The vapour pressure of 2-Naphthalenaminium, 7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-N,N,N-trimethyl-, chloride is estimated to be 0.0000000000000776 Pa by the Modified Grain Method.
The value is reported as 0.000000001 Pa for Chemical Safety Assessment due to the limitaiton in the field.
Partition coefficient
The octanol-water partition coefficient of 2-Naphthalenaminium, 7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-N,N,N-trimethyl-, chloride is estimated as 1.8798.
The supproting study indicates that the octanol-water partition coefficient of Basic Red 76 is determined to be -1.732 ± 0.1131
Water solubility
The water solubility of the test chemical, 2-Naphthalenaminium, 7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-N,N,N-trimethyl-, chloride is estimated to be 159.2 mg/L indicating that the substance is moderately soluble in water.
Surface tension
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical [7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: Basic red 76) is widely used as a hair color. For this use, surface activity is not a desired property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point
The substance [7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride is a solid at room temperature. Flash point is a key measure of the flammability of a liquid. Thus this study need not be conducted for the test material and hence the endpoint was considered for waiver.
Auto flammability
The chemical [7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: Basic red 76) does not catch fire upon exposure to air at normal conditions of temperature and pressure. Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Auto flammable" and hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Flammability
The chemical [7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: Basic red 76) has an NFPA rating of 1 for Flammability . Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Flammable" under normal conditions of use, storage and transportation and hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Explosiveness
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of [7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: Basic red 76), except the Azo group. Thus, the chemical is likely to be "Non explosive". Hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Oxidising properties
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the chemical substance [7-hydroxy-8-[(2-methoxyphenyl)azo]-2-naphthyl]trimethylammonium chloride (Common Name: Basic red 76) is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substances containing oxygen and chlorine atom but these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemical is not likely to be oxidising and hence this end point was considered for waiver.
