Description of key information

Depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
350 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
17 mg/L

Additional information

In a GLP short-term respiration test according to OECD 209 conducted with 1,1,3,3 -Tetramethylguanidine (CAS 80 -70 -6) a 3h-EC20 of 48 mg/L (3h-EC10 = 17 mg/L; 3h-EC50 = 350 mg/L) was obtained for oxygen consumption, based on the nominal test concentrations (BASF SE, report no. 08G0014/17G046, 2017). The test was performed using domestic activated sludge.

In conclusion, depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible.
