Description of key information

- Experimental study comparable to Zahn-Wellens test design (OECD Guideline 302B), non-GLP: test substance can be declared as "inherently biodegradable".

- Biodegradation in water: ready biodegradability (OECD Guideline 301-E/ EU Method C.4-B, non-GLP): DMF was fully degraded within 21 days.

Additional information

Regarding the result of the key study on ready biodegradability, the substance is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.

Biodegradation of DMF (30 mg/L) in river water was also investigated.

DMF was completely degraded in river water within 6 days.

As the substance is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria, no further tests on biodegradation in water, sediment or soil are performed. These endpoints can be waived. However, rapid dissipation can be assumed in case that DMF unintentionally reaches the sediment or soil compartment, respectively.
