Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The partition coefficients for members of the category Rosin adducts and rosin adduct salts range from 1.5 to >6.5

The partition coefficient of Rosin, fumarated is 2.8 at pH 3.93 – 4.47. An additional study determined a log Kow of 2.7 – 3.6 at pH 7.5 and 4.4 – 7 at pH 2, both measured at 35°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study. following EU method A.8 (shake-flask method) was provided for Rosin, fumarated (Chilworth Technology, 2010a). The partition coefficient was reported to be 2.8 at pH 3.93 – 4.47

An additional GLP-compliant study that followed OECD Guideline 117 (HPLC method) was provided for Rosin, fumarated (Water Quality Institute, 1992). The log partition coefficient of Rosin, fumarated was found to be in the range of 4.4 to 7.0 at pH 2.0.

In addition, a calculated value is provided for Rosin, fumarated (Marlin Consultancy, 2010). Where test data are available this should be used instead of calculated data, therefore the tested values are considered as key for this substance.

The wide range of partition coefficient values for substances in this category is due to the chemical structures of the substances, as they are composed of ionisable organic acids. The substances in this category are UVCB mixtures and therefore can exhibit more than one peak and log Kow value.
