Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

The flammability of liquids is assessed on the basis of flash point.

There is no indication on the basis of structure and experience in handling and use that the substance is pyrophoric (flammable in contact with air) or flammable in contact with water.

Therefore, in accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex XI, there is no need to conduct further flammability testing.

Two studies are available for the explosive limit of the substance in air. A lower explosive limit of 0.4% and an upper explosive limit of 29.6% at temperature of 150°C were obtained for the substance using DIN 51649 test method. Also, in accordance with ASTM E 681 -94 test method, a lower explosion limit of 0.66% and an upper explosion limit of 31.62% at a temperature of 120°C were obtained for the submission substance.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The flammability classification of the substance is dependent on available flash point and boiling point results. Two reliable flash point results of 21.7°C and 24°C are available for the submission substance:

Classification based a flash point value of 24°C and predicted boiling point of 130°C:

The substance is classified as Flammable Liquid Category 3 (H226: Flammable liquid and vapour) according to EC Regulation (No.) 1272/2008.

Classification based a flash point value of 21.7°C and predicted boiling point of 130°C:

The substance is classified as Flammable Liquid Category 2 (H225: Highly flammable liquid and vapour) according to EC Regulation (No.) 1272/2008.
