Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the long-term toxicity to fish.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The chemical safety assessment according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 does not indicate the need to investigate further the long-term toxicity to fish. Thus, in accordance to Annex IX, column 2 no further long-term toxicity testing to fish is proposed.

In addition, the environmental exposure assessment for Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate (CAS 137-16-6) indicates no risk for the aquatic compartment (all RCR < 1; please refer to Chapter 9 and 10 of the Chemical Safety Report for detailed information).

The substance is not classified for environmental hazards according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) and following amendments (ATPs). Moreover, the substance is determined to be readily biodegradable and according to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b, readily biodegradable substances can be expected to undergo rapid and ultimate degradation in most environments, including biological Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) (ECHA, 2017). Therefore, chronic exposure of aquatic organisms is unlikely. In addition, due to a low Pow of 0.37, the substance is not expected to bioaccumulate in aquatic species.

According to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7b: Endpoint specific guidance, R.7.8.5.3 (ECHA, 2017), long-term testing of fish should only be conducted if it represents the most sensitive taxonomic group. The results indicate no higher sensitivity of fish compared to Daphnia. Hence due to animal welfare reasons and to avoid unnecessary vertebrate tests, no further long-term test with fish is proposed for Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate (CAS 137-16-6).
