Description of key information

Toxic effects occur within the range of solubility. Acutely toxic for aquatic organisms. Toxic to aquatic organisms based on long-term (chronic) toxicity study data.The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced to biological treatment plants in appropriate low concentrations.

Short-term toxicity to fish

In a semi-static acute toxicity test, fish (zebrafish) were exposed for 96 hours according to OECD guideline 203. The LC-Values based on geometric mean measured test item concentrations were determined to be as follows: LC0 = 1.01 mg/L and LC50 =1.73 mg/L 

 

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Daphnia magna were exposed to the test item for 48 h days according to OECD 202. Based on the geometric mean measured concentrations of the test item, the 48 h-EC50 was determined to be 4.01 mg/L.

 

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The long-term toxicity on aquatic invertebrates was investigated with Daphnia magna, in a semi-static test according to OECD 211. 

Since the measured concentrations deviated markedly from the nominal concentrations, the effect concentration is based on the time-weighted mean measured (TWM) concentrations: EC10 reproduction 21 day : 0.196 mg/L (TWM)

Toxicity to algae and cyanobacteria

The toxicity of the test item to the freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was determined according OECD 201. The EC-values based on geometric mean measured test item concentrations after 72 hours were determined to be as follows: ErC10 = 3.93 mg/L and the ErC50 = 8.28 mg/L.

 

Toxicity to microorganisms

In an activated sludge, respiration inhibition test, the toxicity to microorganisms of the test item was determined according to OECD 209 over three hours. The IC50 value was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L.
