Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

In accordance with annex VII of REACH, column 2 adaptation applies. The substance does not contain any functional groups associated with oxidising properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Under Column 2 “Specific Rules for Adaptation from Column 1” in the Regualtion (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006, it states that the study does not need to be conducted if: “there are no chemical groups associated with oxidizing properties present in the molecule” .

The structure of Bourgeonal was assessed for chemical groups that imply oxidizing properties. Examples of such groups are nitrates, metal oxides, hypofluorites, difluoroaminopolynitroaryls, perchlorates, bromates and iodites.

“From the structural formula of Bourgeonal it can be concluded that the substance has no oxidising properties. The substance does not have the functional groups associated with oxidising activity.

Therefore it can be concluded beyond reasonable doubt that Bourgeonal is incapable of causing fire or enhancing the risk of fire when in contact with combustible material.”
