Description of key information

Based on the results from two screening studies on biodegradation with 2,2'-azobis(2 -methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride and its thermal degradation products a low rate of degradation in the environment can be assumed. Therefore, a simulation study in surface water at 12 °C was conducted. The findings in the study support the results in the screening studies as well as the findings in the hydrolysis endpoint.

The substance itself is rapidly degraded via hydrolysis and removed from the environment. The formed transformation products are showing a higher stability and prolonged half-live time of more than 60 days under testing conditions.
