Description of key information

Additional information

According to CLP EU Regulation (Reg. CE 1272/2008) benzylmagnesium chloride is classified as corrosive Skin. Corr. 1B H314 . It is expected that this substance causes severe skin burns and eye damage as a consequence of the specific and violent reactivity towards water, and thus including water contained in the skin, in mucous membranes and eyes.

This property is maintained also in the composition containing 30% w/w benzylmagnesium chloride in tetrahydrofuran because this lowest concentration is actually corrosive. The corrosive action is enhanced by tetrahydrofuran that has solvent action expressed by removing the sebum which is a natural skin protection. Therefore, skin is more exposed to corrosive action.

When considering the mucous membranes and eyes, they are exposed to irritant properties of tetrahydrofuran and corrosive action of benzylmagensium chloride. Therefore, the substance has to be classified as corrosive with hazard statement H314 under CLP and with R34 under DSD.
