Description of key information

A carcinogenicity study has not been undertaken on Oxooil LS9. However, considering the current weight-of-evidence for this endpoint it is not justified to undertake an in vivo life span study in rats or mice.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Justification for classification or non-classification

It is not possible to make a classification proposal for the carcinogenicity of Oxooil LS9..

Additional information

Based on other endpoints, Oxooil LS9 is not expected to present a carcinogenic hazard. The C8 linear and branched hydrocarbon components of Oxooil LS9 are expected to be metabolized and largely excreted via the kidneys. There was no evidence of hyperplasia in available repeated dose toxicity studies. In vitro genetic toxicity studies (Section 7.6), show no evidence of gene mutation, but a clastogenic effect was observed in the absence of S9 metabolising enzymes. An in vivo mammalian erythrocyte micronucleus test (OECD 474) revealed no genotoxic properties in the rat bone marrow micronucleus test at the two tested sampling times of 24 hours and 48 hours. Considering the current weight-of-evidence for this endpoint it is not justified to undertake an in vivo life span study in rats or mice.
