Description of key information

In a GLP study based on OECD Guideline 105, the water solubility of a [6-14C]-labelled C12 chlorinated parraffin (59% chlorination) was determined to be 0.47 mg/L (based on analysis of total radioactivity) at 20oC using a modified flask method. This result may have been affected by the partial degradation of the chlorinated paraffin during the study (Madeley and Gillings, 1983).

Additional information

In a GLP study based on OECD Guideline 105, the water solubility of a [6-14C]-labelled C12 chlorinated parraffin (59% chlorination) was determined using a modified flask method. The solubility of the test material was determined by stirring 50 mg of the material, weighed onto a microscope slide, in 5 L water for 91 days. After allowing the solution to equilibrate (no stirring) for a further 87 days, the concentration of test material was determined by radiochemical analysis and by thin-layer chromatography. The solubility was estimated by the two methods to be 0.15 mg/L (based on analysis of parent compound) and 0.47 mg/L (based on analysis of total radioactivity) at 20oC. These results may have been affected by the partial degradation of the chlorinated paraffin during the study (Madeley and Gillings, 1983).
