Description of key information

A differential scanning calorimeter test conducted on the sample indicated that the sample undergoes an exothermic event from 127.7°C which has a heat of decomposition of -414.4 J/g.
Based on result of the DSC test (heat of decomposition < 500 J/g), it is beyond reasonable doubt that the material will not exhibit explosive properties. Therefore it was not considered appropriate to conduct the A14 tests.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Examination of the structural formula for the sample indicates:

- There is a C=C group which is associated with explosive properties.

- The oxygen balance is -170 which is above the criteria for consideration (-200).

- A differential scanning calorimeter test conducted on the sample indicated that the sample undergoes an exothermic event from 127.7°C which has a heat of decomposition of -414.4 J/g.

Based on result of the DSC test (heat of decomposition < 500 J/g), it is beyond reasonable doubt that the material will not exhibit explosive properties. Therefore it was not considered appropriate to conduct the A14 tests.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The structural formula has been assessed for explosive properties, it has been concluded that no further testing is required as the substance does not possess any functional groups which are likely to show explosive properties.Due to this the substance has not been classified.
