Description of key information
The test substance is a dark bluish coloured, odourless solid powder.
The melting point of FAT 40210 was performed according to OECD Guideline 102. The substance did not melt up to 250 °C.
The boiling point was determined according to EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature). The substance did not boil up to 250 °C
The relative density of test item according to OECD Guideline 109 at ambient temperature (compared to water at 4 °C) is 1.431g/cm³.
In accordance with REACH Chapter R.7A Endpoint Specific Guidance, specifically R.7.1.14.1 Information requirements on granulometry, the granulometry study does not need to be conducted as the substance is marketed or used in a granular form or a dedusted powder. The substance is isolated by spray drying into the composite micro-granular form or the wet press cake is mixed with an agent which bounds the dust particles to prevent airborne material to form. As such, the particle size of the spray-dried dye is not a function of the chemical but a function of the spray dryer used; a typical particle size distribution for reactive dyes isolated as low dust granules is as follows: 10 % < 123 µm; 25 % < 159 µm; 50 % < 207 µm; 75 % < 266 µm; 90 % < 326 µm.
The melting point is above 300 °C and hence the vapor pressure has been omitted in accordance with Column 2 of Annex VII Section 7.5.
The partition coefficient n-octanol/water of the test item at 20 °C, estimated from the individual solubility in water and n-octanol, was determined to be log Pow <-6.29.
The water solubility of the test item determined according to OECD guideline 105 was found to be 443g/l at 20 °C (without correction for purity).The test substance has an extremely high water solubility and a very low solubility in organic solvents. Stability in organic solvents is not relevant for the use of the test substance.
The surface tension was determined to 47.677 mN/m at 20 °C in a 0.5 % solution in water.
A read across study from FAT 40821/A is performed to determine the auto-flammability according to EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids). FAT40821/A shows a relative self-ignition temperature at about 399.9 °C. No ignition was observed throughout the course of the test. The test item should be considered as not highly flammable. No observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome
The test item has been investigated for oxidising properties in a test according to EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids)). The test material demonstrated a lower burning rate compared to the standard test control barium nitrate mixture. Therefore, the test item is considered not to have oxidising properties.
In accordance with Column 2 Adaptation Statement of REACH Annex IX, information requirement Section 7.15, study does not need to be conducted since the stability in organic solvents is not considered critical. This would be assessed in individual studies where organic solvents are used. Furthermore, stability in organic solvents is not relevant for the use of the test substance.
The behaviour of FAT40821/A in aqueous solutions is dominated by the strongly acidic -SO3H-groups. Therefore, the molecule is negatively charged and is present in anionic form over the whole environmentally relevant pH range.
In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement Section 7.17, viscosity cannot be conducted on solid materials or gases. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids.
