- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes

- Executive summary:
A study was performed to assess the toxicity of the test material PMC D-532 on reproduction to the sediment-dwelling oligocheate, Lumbriculus variegatus. The method was based on the OECD Guideline No. 225 "Sediment-water Lumbriculus toxicity Test using Spiked Sediment.
4 replicates of 10 worms were exposed to formulated sediment spiked with test material at concentrations of 10, 32, 100, 320 and 1000 mg/kg (dw sediment) for a period of 28 days. Control and solvent control groups (both 6 x 10 worms) were maintained under identical conditions but not exposed to the test material. Worms exposed to pentachlorophenol sodium salt served as positive control. The numbers of worms and the dry weight data of these worms were recorded at the end of the test.
No significant effects were observed at any of the concentrations tested. The EC50(28d) for reproduction based on nominal test concentrations was greater than 1000 mg/kg. The NOEC was 1000 mg/kg and the LOEC was greater than 1000 mg/kg.
