Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues (CAS No. 90622-40-5) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2014).

Persistence

Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues (CAS No. 90622-40-5) is not readily biodegradable (39% in 28 days). Thus, persistency in the environment (P and vP) cannot be excluded.

Bioaccumulation

An evaluation of the bioaccumulation potential of Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues is presented in Section 5.3 of the technical dossier indicating that bioaccumulation is expected to be low. Due to its low water solubility, high adsorption potential and metabolization this substance is likely to show negligible bioaccumulation potential.

Based on the above information, the test substance does not meet the Bioaccumulative (B) or very Bioaccumulative (vB) criteria.

Toxicity

The chronic values reported in tests conducted with aquatic invertebrates and algae are higher than 0.01 mg/L, and the substance is not classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction according to the 7th ATP of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP). Therefore, the substance does not meet the T criterion according to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XIII.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues is considered not to be PBT or vPvB.
