Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- 580 mg/L
Additional information
There is a single study of microbial toxicity on Aromatic sulphonic acids; a 1989 bacteria toxicity test with activated sludge microbes. The 3-hour NOEC for growth inhibition is 580 mg/L.
For sodium sulphate in the Krueger study (1938) it was reported that bacteriophagy taking place in the presence of M/8 Na2SO4 has the following pronounced characteristics: the K time of lysis is considerably prolonged, the bacteria take up less than the normal amount of phage, phage production occurs at one-third the customary rate and it takes four times as much phage to lyse a Na2SO4 -treated bacterium than a normal one. Nevertheless the bacterial growth was not affected by Na2SO4. The lag phase and the lowered rate of phage production can be attributed to the Na2SO4 effect on the cell surface.
In the Tokuz experiment (Tokuz et al, 1978) the effect of sodium sulphate on the system was low; twoNo Observed Adverse Effect Levelwere recorded at 37 days: 26 g/L and 8 g/L, respectively based onmotile protozoa andbased onstalked ciliatcs. The lowest has been chosen as key value for the microorganisms toxicity.
