Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a 28-day biodegradability study, microorganisms in activated sludge were exposed to B508 at nominal concentrations of 0 (Blank control and positive control) and 100 mg/L (nominal concentration).
The criterion for ready biodegradability (at least 60% biodegradation within a 10-day window) was not met since only 21 % (in average) of the test substance was biodegraded after 28 days. Therefore, B508 is classified as not readily biodegradable. However, the fact that under the stringent conditions of the ready biodegradability test a biodegradation of >20% was achieved indicates that under more favourable conditions the substance may degrade more rapidly.
Results of specific analysis revealed that the hydrogenated rosins biodegraded 92% whereas the CuPc-SA or CuPc compounds did not biodegrade.
