First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

General information:

In case of accident or unwellness, seek medical advice immediately (show directions for use or safety data sheet if possible). Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. In case of irregular breathing or respiratory arrest provide artificial respiration. First aider: Pay attention to self-protection!

If inhaled:

Remove affected person from the danger area and lay down. Provide fresh air. Call a physician immediately. Where appropriate artificial ventilation. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice. Self-protection of the first aider.

In case of skin contact:

After contact with skin, take off immediately all contaminated clothing, and wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention.

In case of eye contact:

In case of contact with eyes flush immediately with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids apart and consult an ophthalmologist. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

If swallowed:

Rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person or a person with cramps.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:

Symptoms:  Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Substance may cause acute irrtation and/or sensitization of airways which lead to tightness in thorax, shortbreath and asthmatic complaints.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed: Immediate medical attention. First Aid, decontamination, treatment of symptoms.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide (CO2), dry powder or water spray.

In case of major fire and large quantities: Water spray jet, Alcohol resistant foam.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: High power water jet.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, its combustion products, or released gases:

Thermal decomposition can lead to the escape of irritating gases and vapours. Carbon monoxide. Carbon dioxide (CO2). Hydrogen cyanide (hydrocyanic acid). Nitrogen oxides (NOx). Inhaling hazardous decomposing products can cause serious health damage.

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for fire fighting:  Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing.

Additional information on firefighting:

Cool closed containers that are near the source of the fire. Remove product from area of fire. Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings.

Due to gaseous decomposition products, overpressure can occur in tightly sealed containers. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately.

Do not allow entering drains or surface water. Dispose of waste according to applicable legislation.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Personal precautions: Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/ mist/vapours/spray. Wear breathing apparatus if exposed to vapours/dusts/ aerosols. Keep away unprotected persons. Wear personal protection equipment.

Environmental precautions:

Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Do not allow to enter into soil/subsoil. In case of gas escape or of entry into waterways, soil or drains, inform the responsible authorities. Retain contaminated washing water and dispose it.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Provide adequate ventilation. Absorb with liquid-binding material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous earth, acid- or universal binding agents). Take up mechanically. Collect in closed and suitable containers for disposal. Dispose of waste according to applicable legislation.

Reference to other sections:

For safe use, see section "Handling and storage". For personal protection, see section "Exposure controls/personal protection". For waste disposal, see section "Disposal considerations".

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Advice on safe handling: Guarantee that the eye flushing systems and safety showers are closely located to the working place. Provide adequate ventilation as well as local exhaustion at critical locations. Treat MOI in an environment, in which its concentration is kept lower than 0.025 ppm by adequate ventilation. Avoid exposure. Use personal protection equipment. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Keep good industrial hygiene.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion:

Usual measures for fire prevention.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Storage space and container requirements: Keep away from strongly acidic and alkaline materials as well as oxidizers.

Storage specifications: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Protect from moisture.

Exposure controls

General protective and hygienic measures:

Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs.

Take off contaminated clothing immediately.

Wash hands before taking breaks and when finishing work.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Respiratory protection:

Filter type A/P2

For short term or low level concentrations use a respiratory filter device, for high concentrations or long term exposure wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Hand (skin) protection:

Wear protective gloves resistant against solvents and acids according to EN 374.

The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/the substance/the preparation.

Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation.

Glove material: chloroprene rubber

The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Penetration time of glove material:

Material thickness: approximately 0.4 mm

Penetration time: > 480 min

The exact penetration time is to be obtained from the glove manufacturer and must be observed.

Eye/face protection:

Tightly sealed safety goggles (DIN EN 166)

Body protection:

Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.

General protective and hygiene measures:

Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs. Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Wash hands before breaks and after work. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Engineering measures: Provide good ventilation. Handle substance within a predominantly closed system provided with extract ventilation. Treat MOI in an environment, in which its concentration is kept lower than 0.025 ppm by adequate ventilation.

Environmental exposure controls: see section "Accidental release measures" and section "Ecological information"
