Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Available data indicate that phenol, styrenated (LS 500) does not easily undergo biodegradation. In tests for ready biodegradability with the supporting substances phenol, methylstyrenated (LA 300) and cumylphenol, no or only low ultimate biodegradation (max. 4%) was observed.
In a biodegradation test in soil according to OECD TG 307 (Aerobic and Anaerobic Transformation in Soil) with the 14C-radiolabelled test material, (2,4,6 -tris(1-phenylethyl)phenol (TSP, tristyrenated phenol), that very component in phenol styrenated expected to possess the highest persistence, resulted in DT50 -values between 3.08 and 11.5 days at 12 °C and 2.88 to 8.46 days at 20 °C. Moreover, the rapid degradation of [14C]Tristyrenated phenol was combined with a significant amount (≤ 22% AR) of 14CO2 generated over the course of the incubation period. This is an indication of significant mineralization and non-persistent nature of the parent compound.
Half-lives of degradation products ranged from 14.7 to 110 days at 12 °C and from 4.78 to 83 days at 20 °C, indicating that the substance can be biodegraded at least to some extent. The PBT-criterion for persistence is not met.
