Administrative data

First-aid measures

Eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid. Skin: Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid if irritation develops or persists. Wash clothing before reuse. Inhalation: Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Do NOT use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Ingestion: Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid. Do NOT induce vomiting. If conscious and alert, rinse mouth and drink 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Notes to Physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Fire-fighting measures

Flammability of the Product: Flammable.

Suitable Extinguishing Media: Use water, dry chemical, chemical foam, or alcohol-resistant foam. Use water spray to cool fire-exposed containers.

Special Protective Equipment for Fire-Fighters: Wear full protective equipment (Bunker Gear) and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Accidental release measures

Personal Precautions: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.

Precautions to Protect the Environment: Consult a regulatory specialist to determine appropriate state or local reporting requirements, for assistance in waste characterization and/or hazardous waste disposal and other requirements listed in pertinent environmental permits.

Methods for Cleaning Up: Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Scoop up with a non-sparking tool, then placed into a suitable container for disposal. Remove all sources of ignition. Provide ventilation. Clean up residual material by washing area with a 2-5% solution of soda ash.

Handling and storage

Handling: Wash thoroughly after handling. Use only in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames. Storage: Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure Limits: Isophorone: TWA=5ppm.

Engineering Controls: Not applicable. Use in a well-ventilated area.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Eyes: Wear chemical splash goggles. Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure. Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.

Respirators: Follow the European Standard EN 149. Use a European Standard EN 149 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable under normal temperatures and pressures.

Incompatibility (Materials to Avoid): strong bases, strong acids and strong oxidizing agents.

Condition to Avoid: Ignition sources, excess heat, confined spaces.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: Carbon monoxide, irritating and toxic fumes and gases, carbon dioxide.

Hazardous Polymerization: Has not been reported.

Disposal considerations

Waste Disposal Methods: Whatever cannot be saved for recovery or recycling should be managed in an appropriate and approved waste disposal facility. Processing, use or contamination of this product may change the waste management options. Waste must be disposed of in accordance with relevant EC Directives and national, regional and local environmental control regulations. For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) should be used.
