Diisopropylbenzene (m-/p-mixture) is an organic liquid at 1013 hPa and 20°C. The melting points of m- and p-diisopropylbenzene are -63.13 and -17.07°C, respectively. The boiling points of m- and p-diisopropylbenzene are 203.2 and 210.4°C, respectively. The relative densities of m- and p-diisopropylbenzene at 20°C are 0.8559 and 0.8568, respectively. The densities of m- and p-diisopropylbenzene at 20°C are 0.8559 and 0.8568 g/cm³, respectively. The density of diisopropyl benzene (mixture of m- and p-configuration: 58.4% w/w m-diisopropylbenzene and 41.4 % w/w p-diisopropylbenzene) is 0.8549 g/cm³ at 25°C. The vapor pressures of m- and p-diisopropylbenzene were calculated via the Cox equation established on the basis of experimentally derived and validated data. The extrapolation yielded values of 0.328 (p-diisopropylbenzene) and 0.524 hPa (m-diisopropylbenzene) at 25°C. The vapor pressure of p-diisopropylbenzene was calculated via the Antoine equation established on experimentally derived and validated data. The extrapolation yielded a vapor pressure P=0.34 hPa at 25°C. In a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 107 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), Shake Flask Method) the log Kow of m-diisopropylbenzene was determined to be 5.13 and the log Kow of p-diisopropylbenzene to be 5.23 at 25°C each. In a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility), the water solubilities of m-diisopropylbenzene and p-diisopropylbenzene were determined to be 0.072 and 0.0405 mg/L at 25°C, respectively. According to the classification m- and p-diisopropylbenzene are regarded as insoluble. m- and p-Diisopropylbenzene are miscible with alcohol, ether, acetone, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride. The flash points of m-and p-diisopropylbenzene are reported to be 76°C each. The ignition temperature of m-diisopropylbenzene is reported to be 449°C.
m- and p-Diisopropylbenzene are characterized as non flammable liquids.
